As a baby- relatives , people and all strangers cuddle you ,pull your
cheeks ,slap you on your butts.. and the most loved baby is one who
doesn't cry..bears all this...because baby is thick skinned?
Puberty , Youth, Adult age...all are thought to become thick skinned...patience is quite a different thing,it's about not using fire against fire but being thick skinned is taking the whips without showing pain....In India usually this is the best advice given by elders... a daughter getting married is advised become thick skinned if you husband mistreats you..a mother in law advises daughter in law..become thick skinned if my son beats you or insults you...see how bravely I faced the tortures of my in laws, becoming thick skinned...A boy is thought become thick skinned ,don't you cry like gal...truly the same boy becomes thick skinned rapes the gal who tears up her soul in tears and cries of anguish.. but still she is raped because some one is thick skinned...An employee is abused , threaten and not given the basic human right but either he survives becoming thick skinned or he quits making his family vulnerable as he is the only bread earner of the family.
Where is Sensitivity gone...why don't we teach to imbibe sensitivity....Is it so difficult being a human...Is it so difficult to empathize..feel what others are feeling...no it is not... what is needed form us - is just a softer heart to make this world beautiful again... strength lies in feeling the pain...feeling the tears... in accepting it...in wiping it for someone..
As parents and elders we need to teach children sensitivity...right from the time they pluck flowers and leaves ruthlessly;drag a puppy or kitten with a wire rope for fun...throw any rock without realizing...don't give them just a best school...educate them in life skills...Lastly all have to do is soften our thick skinned hearts.
